Every Good Endeavour: Connecting Your Work to God's Plan for the World

Author(s): Timothy Keller

Work

In today's increasingly competitive and insecure economic environment, we often question the reason for work: why am I doing this? Why is it so hard? And what can I do about it? Work may seem just a means to an end: we do it to earn the money to enjoy life outside the workplace. Here, Timothy Keller argues that God's plan is radically more ambitious: he actually created us to work. We are to work together to make the world a better place, to help each other, and so to find purpose for our lives. Our faith should enhance our work, and our work should develop our faith. With deep insight, Timothy Keller draws on essential and relevant biblical wisdom to address our questions about work. There is grace available if we have taken the wrong attitude, idolising money and using our careers to glorify ourselves rather than God. This book provides the foundations for a work-life balance where we can thrive both personally and professionally. Keller shows how through excellence, integrity, discipline, creativity and passion in the workplace we can impact society for good.Developing a better attitude to work releases us to serve others humbly, to worship God everyday, and leaves us deeply fulfilled.

Do we work to live, or live to work?

Fifty years from now, if evangelical Christians are widely known for their love of cities, their commitment to mercy and justice, and their love of their neighbors, Tim Keller will be remembered as a pioneer of the new urban Christians. Christianity Today magazine Tim Keller's ministry in New York City is leading a generation of seekers and skeptics toward belief in God. I thank God for him. Billy Graham Every Good Endeavour is the most accessible book integrating a distinctively Christian perspective to our daily work. Moreover, Keller winsomely speaks to non-Christians who are trying to make sense of the frustrations and pleasures of their working lives. Every Good Endeavour is an excellent read for anyone seeking a better understanding of how faith can be, and should be integrated into their work. It's whole-life-discipleship at its clearest. Great insight, theological engagement and practical application. -- Johnny Douglas Together Magazine Here we see the theological being eminently practical, and the practical always being theologically rooted. Inspire Magazine Ever wondered if it is worth getting up on a Monday morning? If so, this book is for you...a readable and authentic book...backed up by sound theology. Christianity Magazine This is for all those who seek to find meaning in their work. It blows apart the myth that unless we are involved in full time Christian service we are not fully serving the Lord. Reflections

Timothy Keller was born in Pennsylvania and educated at Bucknell University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary. He became a Christian at university, was ordained by the Presbyterian Church in America and worked as a pastor for nine years. He was asked to start Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan in 1989, and under his leadership the church's congregation experienced unprecedented growth from 50 to 5000 members. His target audience consists mainly of urban professionals, whom he believes exhibit disproportionate influence over the culture and its ideas. The 'Influentials' Issue of New York Magazine featured Dr. Keller as "the most successful Christian evangelist in the city by recognizing that young professionals and artists are 'disproportionately influential' in creating the country's culture and that you have to meet this coveted demographic on its own terms." Timothy Keller is renowned for his clear, reasoned approach to Christian apologetics and his book THE REASON FOR GOD: BELIEF IN AN AGE OF SKEPTICISM was named Book of the Year for 2008 by World Magazine. Timothy Keller lives in New York City with his wife Kathy and sons David, Michael and Jonathan.
